The State Labor Government’s West Gate Toll Road is about to open and funnel thousands more cars into North and West Melbourne.
Labor promised $100 million to reduce the impacts of traffic in our area, but have yet to deliver any solutions. In fact, some of the funds are being used to remove pedestrian crossings and make it easier for cars from the toll road to speed through our neighbourhoods, for example by removing the pedestrian crossing at Spencer and Dryburgh streets.
Also, progress has been delayed on the promised linear park for Hawke Street and it is unclear when exactly the project will be delivered.
These changes will have a huge impact on residents’ safety.
As your local Greens MP, I opposed the West Gate toll road from the start due to environmental and local impacts. Now, I’m calling on the State Government to:
- explain the secret traffic modelling
- stop funneling more traffic into North and West Melbourne and fund real traffic calming projects
- undertake genuine community consultation on ways to mitigate rat-runs
- build the promised Hawke Street Linear Park
Sign the petition to the State Government to tell them you don’t want more rat-runs and traffic on our local streets.
