The Victorian Labor Government plans to demolish all 44 public housing towers in Melbourne, starting with 33 Alfred Street in North Melbourne.
Now, the Minister for Housing has confirmed that the North Melbourne Housing Office will be moved to Ascot Vale β and will not return.
π This decision will make it much harder for residents to access the support they need.
There are still many residents living in nearby towers, including:
- 12 Sutton Street
- 159 Melrose Street
- 76 Canning Street
- and other public housing townhouses across North Melbourne
These residents rely on having a local housing office they can walk to.
πΆ Many donβt drive β meaning they would need to:
- Take 25 minutes by public transport, or
- Walk 40 minutes just to get help from a housing officer.
π Local contractors also need the office to collect keys and speak with staff to avoid delays in attending maintenance jobs.
If the office moves, residents will not receive the service they deserve.
β Iβm supporting a resident-led petition calling on Homes Victoria to keep the North Melbourne Housing Office local.
Letβs stand together to protect local services, support our public housing community and save public housing.
