Another young cyclist has been tragically killed on Macaulay Road in Kensington — near the Rankins Road intersection where trucks and cars frequently mix dangerously with pedestrians and bike riders. This follows other tragic cyclist deaths on our inner-city streets in recent years.
The City of Melbourne has approved funding for protected bike lanes on Macaulay Road every year since 2021, yet the State Labor Government’s Department of Transport has repeatedly delayed or denied these bike lanes being built.
There is adequate space for these new bike lanes. There is funding. The only thing missing is State Government approval.
Sign the petition to call on the Victorian Labor Government to:
- Immediately approve the City of Melbourne’s plan for separated bike lanes on Macaulay Road — a plan that is already fully designed and budgeted.
- Invest more in safer bike and walking infrastructure. Currently, less than 3% of Victoria’s road budget is spent on ‘active transport’, yet bike riders and pedestrians are our most vulnerable road users and deserve safer roads and paths.
Whether you walk, ride, or drive, all of us deserve safe streets.
